Quick repairs to running or leaking toilets could save you from receiving a large water bill. A standard 1.5-gallon toilet takes approximately 30 seconds for the tank to refill from a standard flush which is 3 gallons per minute. If your flapper valve is open and the tank is constantly draining a loss of 60 gallons per hour would equal 1,440 gallons per day.
If you did not have the toilet repaired for 30 days there could be as much as 43,200 gallons or 57.75 cubic feet of water lost and at $2.71 per cubic foot your water bill would increase by about $156.50 So if you notice a problem, get it fixed quickly.
