6. How do I get a VIN inspection?

If the vehicle is running/drivable contact Assessor’s Office in the Courthouse located at 1230 Main Street in the Auto License/Vehicle Registration Office, 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Vehicles with no Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspections take place after 4:30 pm. Call 208-799-3026 for information. If the vehicle is inoperable, call the Lewiston Police Department at 208-746-0171.

7. How do I register my vehicle?

Vehicle registrations are done at the Nez Perce County Assessors Office in the Courthouse at 1230 Main Street in the Auto License/Vehicle Registration Office located to the west of the Auditor/Recorder Office. The hours are from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Vehicles with no Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspections take place after 4:30 pm. Call 208-799-3026 for information.

8. How do I request a copy of a police report?

To obtain a police report in a misdemeanor or infraction case, you can go to the Lewiston Police Department and ask for the Police Report Request Form:

Review Process

Complete the form and return it to the Police Department in person, via U.S. mail, fax (208-746-6179) or by email. The request will be sent to the City Attorney’s Office for review and you will be notified where and when to pick up the report or the reasons for denying your request. This process usually takes anywhere from two days to one week.

Attorneys

Please do not request a police report using this process if you are an attorney representing a client in a misdemeanor or infraction matter. In those cases, the City Attorney’s Office will respond to your Request for Discovery pursuant to the Idaho Criminal Rules.

10. What should I do if I am involved in a traffic collision?

If there are injuries or the collision is blocking traffic call 911. If not, call the Police Department at 208-746-0171.

11. Where can I dispose of prescription medication?

The Lewiston Police Department does accept unused prescription drugs for disposal. The Investigations Section placed a prescription drug turn in box in the lobby of the Police Department for use by the public. The idea behind the prescription drug turn in box is to allow for the safe disposal of unused medications. Proper disposal keeps medications from contaminating our waterways (flushing them down the toilet) and more importantly out of the hands of our youth and others who might steal them from a loved one’s medicine cabinet. 12. Where can I get my fingerprints done?

Fingerprints are taken at the Police Department only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 1:30 and 4:30 pm. Due to the high volume of requests, fingerprints are only done for Lewiston residents and/or Lewiston businesses. The first fingerprint card is $10, each additional card is $3, payable in cash or check made out to the "City of Lewiston".
