Lewiston High School (LHS) National Honor Society students have donated three Little Free Libraries now installed at different prominent city locations: Orchards Pool, Sunset Park, and Syringa Park.
A Little Free Library functions as a 'take a book, share a book' free exchange where anyone can borrow or contribute books at any Little Free Library location.
On Monday, November 20th, a few of the students delivered books to one of the libraries recently installed at Syringa Park. Alex Johnson, now a freshman at the University of Idaho, took the lead in designing and constructing the Little Free Library at this location. Reflecting on the project, Johnson shared that the LHS National Honor Society aims to serve the community with a philanthropic project every year. “This specific project aligned perfectly with our goals, and I enjoy building things,” Johnson said. 
The other two libraries were constructed by students using specialized kits. They raised $2,000 through blood drives to acquire the materials, and all books were donated by LHS National Honor Society members.
Before this donation, the City of Lewiston parks system already hosted three Little Free Libraries at Prospect Park, Hereth Park, and Airport Park.
Lewiston Parks and Recreation Director Tim Barker expressed his appreciation for the students’ donations and the positive impact these Little Free Libraries will have on the community. “With six libraries enriching our parks, they'll not only promote literacy and the use of city parks but also foster a stronger sense of community among residents,” remarked Barker.
