Over the course of two years, leaders from Beautiful Downtown Lewiston met with over 40 downtown property owners to discuss the opportunity to develop a Downtown Business Improvement District, held several meetings to answer questions and obtain feedback, and made multiple presentations to the Lewiston City Council. The Downtown Lewiston Business Improvement District (BID) Advisory Board will be comprised of ratepayers within the BID boundary area. This seven-member group will make recommendations to the Lewiston City Council regarding use of the District’s revenues.
WHAT IS A BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (BID)?
Idaho Code (Title 50, Chapter 26) enables the formation of a BID. The BID assesses ratepayers in the Downtown Business Improvement District to generate revenue which shall be used on projects that include, but are not limited to, the management, development, and promotion of the District; recruitment of new businesses to the District, assistance in the redevelopment of properties within the District, and participation in any other related activities necessary or desirable for the promotion of businesses in the District. The formation of the BID was recommended in the Lewiston Downtown Master Plan (.PDF). The BID is scheduled to expire on December 31, 2026.
