Public Works Expo

The City of Lewiston's Public Works Department is excited for the annual Public Works Day which is scheduled for Thursday, May 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Nez Perce County Fairgrounds. The Expo is intended to increase awareness of Public Works' responsibilities and provide and opportunity for everyone to experience a variety of fun activities related to what public works is all about. Here are some activities you can expect at this year's expo:
- Interactive geographical information system (GIS);
- A demonstration of how Public Works Departments utilize GPS to find and document City services;
- Street signage;
- A wastewater jet cleaning demonstration;
- Video inspection of a utility line;
- Traffic sign safety;
- A stormwater quality model;
- Water system backflow information; and
- The process of water that gets pulled from the river and then goes back to the river
Public Works Day will acquaint the community to professional opportunities in a growing field, help citizens learn how daily activities affect the environment, and learn about the many services provided by the region's Public Works Departments. This Expo is part of a nationwide observance honoring leaders in Public Works. Plans for this event are being made by local Public Works agencies from the City of Lewiston, Asotin County, City of Clarkston, and Nez Perce County in cooperation with the American Public Works Association. This event is geared toward kindergarten - 3rd grade students but all are welcome!
